Police: Fatals

Way too many fatals on this exercise. Let's look:

PROBLEM: We said the attempted robbery took place around 1:20 p.m., when in fact it took place around 1:20 a.m. (1:20 military time equals 1:20 a.m.). Two of us fataled on this.

SOLUTION: Make sure you correctly understand facts before you start writing; and double-check facts after you finish writing to make sure what you wrote was correct.

*****

PROBLEM: We spelled the victim's last name as both DaRoza and DeRoza. The former is correct.

SOLUTION: Double-check every use of first and last names. If spelled different in two different places, you know one has to be wrong.

*****

PROBLEM: We said the second suspect grabbed a cane from the victim and turned it on him. In fact, the suspect tried to grab the cane from the victim, but was unsuccessful in doing so before the victim turned the cane on the suspect.

SOLUTION: Same as the first fatal here.

*****

PROBLEM: We said the robbery took place on Monday and Wednesday.

SOLUTION: Same as the second one, but with information sets other than names. Obviously, one event couldn't have happened on two different days; one has to be wrong. Carefully review stories to make sure the same information is used consistently throughout.

*****

PROBLEM: We said the store was located on Holbrook Road. In fact, it was Holbrook Drive.

SOLUTION: Road, Drive, Street, Avenue, etc. are NOT interchangeable. Please use the specific, correct reference.

*****

PROBLEM: We spelled the name of the town as Okemas, when in fact it was Okemos.

SOLUTION: Double-check all names to make sure what you wrote down is actually correct and what you intended to write.
