Speech: Fatals Round-Up

In the "speech" assignment, we had too many fatals: five people committed six fatals. That's too many for an assignment this far into the semester. Let's review how we fataled:

In one instance we said the speech took place on Wednesday. Don't know where that came from -- perhaps confusion with the "meeting" story being due on Wednesday? -- but the correct date was yesterday or Monday.

Also, we left out the last name of Tom Izzo right before citing the date, creating the confusing name of Tom Monday. This, too, is a fatal.

Plus, we referred to the PTA as the PTZ. You know the rest.

And, we said the speech was at a Lansing PTA meeting, when it fact it was at a Michigan PTA meeting in East Lansing.

Finally, in a quote we said o and week, when we meant of and weeks. And this fatal came from someone who finished the assignment with a lot of time left on the deadline clock!

And that's a reminder to take time to actually fact-check your story when finished. Go through it line-by-line. Write down how you spelled, cited and used information on a separate piece of paper, and then compare that to the information you have in the book (or, in a real-world scenario, in your notes).

If you are short on time, spend more time fact-checking and less time writing. I'd rather have you write short than wrong.
