Job Shadows: What You Saw, Part 3

Here's a sampling of some of the various job shadows done by you all (this will be updated as job shadow reports are turned in, so please check back frequently). Take a look and see what you can learn from everyone's visits. There's a lot of good stuff here to help you decide what you want to do with your lives; what you need to be doing to get there; and what to expect when you do get there.

Please give each one of these a quick read as they come in, will you?

For my job shadow I followed Susan El Khoury who works at as a video journalist at Wilx channel 10 news. Her primary job is to report on stories happening in the community and have a news package ready for the 4 and 6 o’clock news shows.

Upon arriving, Susan met me in the lobby and gave me a tour of the facility. I saw the studio and control room, and all of the cubicles where the producers and reporters work.

Shortly after my tour, the entire office had a meeting. In this meeting, everyone was expected to pitch ideas for stories that would air on the news that night. Each person pitched two to three ideas and then the news director Kevin Ragan told each person what story to take.

From there everyone went back to their desk and immediately started coming up with ideas on who to interview. From there they made calls and set up interviews and then everyone left to film video for their story.

Before Susan left, she explained to me that she would get lots of video with b-roll footage and then come back to the office where she would edit the video together. She said that she does everything including writing scripts for the news anchors.
